Hello

My name is Matteo Patelli. I’m Italian, a bikepacking guide and the founder of Ride Beyond.

I design and lead bike trips: relaxed weekends in central Italy, and multi-day adventures through remote landscapes, genuine encounters and self-supported exploration.

Over the years I’ve ridden across Europe, North Africa and Asia, mapping routes that leave the beaten track behind and lead into the heart of nature. Every route I offer, I have ridden myself first.

In my professional life I have worked for years in health, safety, environment and quality (HSEQ). This work has taught me to spot risks before they become problems, to prepare every detail carefully, and to respect the places we pass through. I bring the same approach to my trips: carefully planned routes, attention to each person in the group, and a way of travelling that leaves as little trace as possible.

I speak Italian, English and Spanish, which helps me lead international groups and connect with the people we meet along the way.

To me, a bike journey is a slow rhythm, shared effort, and the freedom to discover a place by riding through it. My job is to take care of everything else.

My Story

I’m a mechanical engineer by background, and I’ve spent years working in environments where safety, risk management and responsibility are not optional — they are essential.

This mindset is something I bring into every Ride Beyond journey.

Alongside my professional path, I’ve always been driven by exploration. Over the years, I’ve ridden thousands of kilometers across Europe, North Africa and Asia, building routes that go beyond the obvious — into remote landscapes, raw nature and authentic local cultures.

Ride Beyond was born from the idea that adventure and safety are not opposites.

You can push your limits, explore the unknown and live intense experiences — while still being supported by structure, awareness and preparation.

My goal is simple: create journeys that feel real, challenging and meaningful, where participants can step outside their comfort zone knowing that safety is always the foundation.

My approach to guiding is built on three pillars: safety, adaptability and real experience.

Every journey is designed to balance challenge and accessibility. I aim to push participants slightly beyond their comfort zone — but always within a structured and controlled environment.

I focus on small groups to ensure flexibility, cohesion and attention to each rider. Routes are carefully planned, but I constantly adapt to conditions, weather and group dynamics.

The goal is not just to complete a route, but to live the journey fully — from physical effort to cultural immersion
